The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has extended the 2019 and 2020 EEO-1 reporting deadline to August 23, 2021.
All employers with 100 or more employees (and federal government contractors with 50 or more employees) are obligated to report their EEO-1 Component 1 data, which includes information on the racial/ethnic and gender composition of an employer’s workforce by specific job categories.
The EEOC didn’t collect this data in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, on April 26, 2021, it opened up collection for both 2019 and 2020 data through the EEO-1 Component 1 website and set a filing deadline of July 19, 2021.
Due to the high number of EEO-1 reporting support requests, however, the EEOC Filer Support Team has a backlog of support requests, resulting in delayed responses to employers. To ensure that both the EEOC has adequate time to respond to employers’ support requests and all employers are able to file their reports, the EEOC extended the deadline to August 23, 2021.
The extension is welcome news to employers waiting on responses from the EEOC. But, even with the extension, the EEOC still encourages covered employers to file their EEO-1 report as soon as possible, which is a good idea since it may take a while to get a response from the EEOC, should any problems come up.
