How It Works

In a two-part consultation, you’ll meet with an employment law expert to discuss your areas of concern, select two to three HR topics to focus on, and then take a deeper dive into those topics with practical compliance guidance and next steps.

So, a complete consultation will include:

  • Session 1 (one hour)
    • Discuss current HR practices and concerns.
    • Identify key compliance risks.
    • Select two to three focus areas.
  • Session 2 (two hours)
    • Deep dive into selected topics.
    • Review compliance requirements.
    • Get practical guidance and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this service right for my organization?
This service is best suited for private-sector employers without complex regulatory requirements. It does not address industry-specific obligations or more complex scenarios, such as piece-rate compensation, prevailing wage, temporary employees or labor contractors. This service is not available to unionized employers, public agencies, HR consultants, PEOs or employers with certain compensation structures.

Q: How long does the HR Compliance Assessment take?
The assessment is conducted over two sessions. The first session is one hour, focusing on identifying areas of concern and then selecting two to three HR topics. The second session, usually scheduled within a few weeks of the first session, is two hours and provides a deeper dive into those topics with guidance and recommended next steps.

Q: What HR topics does the service cover?

Q: What technology is required?
Sessions are conducted via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, based on your preference. The expert will share their screen and communicate with you by audio. For the best experience, we recommend joining from a desktop or laptop. A camera is not required.

Q: Is the HR Compliance Assessment an audit?
No. This is a focused, expert-led assessment designed to quickly identify key risks — rather than a full, comprehensive audit. Employers are responsible for conducting any further internal review and taking action to correct or mitigate identified risks.

Q: How is this service different from the HR Helpline?
The HR Compliance Assessment is a structured, two-session deep dive focused on proactively identifying risks within two to three identified HR areas. The HR Helpline is designed for employers to call in and discuss a specific HR question or situation.
