Do I Need a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan?

Starting July 1, 2024, nearly all non-health care employers in California have been subject to the state’s general industry workplace violence prevention standards. The law requires employers to take proactive steps — developing a written workplace violence prevention plan, training employees, following post-incident procedures, and conducting annual reviews and training. Failure to comply may result in California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) citations or penalties.

How WVP Support Works

After you sign up for WVP Support, you’ll start by reviewing our Workplace Violence Prevention Toolkit, which includes a Workplace Violence Prevention Checklist, a plan development form to involve employees, and a customizable model plan template, among other resources. This preparation will help you make the most of your first meeting with a CalChamber employment law expert.

From there, you’ll meet one-on-one with your assigned employment law expert for a walkthrough of the toolkit and key action steps. Then, you’ll take time to work on the checklist items, gather employee input and draft your plan. You’ll finish with a second working session with our employment law expert where we will help you build your workplace violence prevention plan. Our goal is to make compliance clear, collaborative and achievable.

During your sessions, you’ll share your screen via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Our expert will provide real-time answers to your questions and help you understand the best workplace violence prevention practices for your business needs.
