If You Provide Paid Time Off to Employees, Don’t Miss This

paid time off

Paid time off (PTO) is an optional job benefit many employers use as a recruitment and retention incentive. Some employers choose to combine vacation time, sick time and personal time into a single bank of days for employees to use at their discretion.

In California, though, PTO is commonly misunderstood and applied inconsistently due to the state’s complex compliance requirements.

“Vacation or PTO benefits greatly help an employer’s recruitment and retention efforts,” says Matthew Roberts, webinar co-presenter and CalChamber employment law counsel. “However, if these policies are not designed and administered according to California law, wage claims may result.”

In CalChamber’s upcoming webinar, our employment law experts will discuss the numerous rules employers must follow if they offer PTO, including:

  • Mandatory California paid sick leave;
  • Vacation policies including required usage and cash-out plans;
  • All-inclusive PTO plans;
  • Paid holidays;
  • Flexible or unlimited time off policies;
  • Caps on PTO accrual; and
  • Best practices.
