Oakland Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Laws Now in Effect

Mar 10 2015 - Compensation, Posters and Notices, Time Off - Gail Cecchettini Whaley

Reminder to employers with employees in Oakland: are you in compliance with the new Oakland minimum wage of $12.25 per hour and the new paid sick leave mandate?

Measure FF took effect March 2, 2015. In addition to the new minimum wage and paid sick leave, another new requirement applies to hospitality employers (such as hotels, restaurants and banquet facilities).

Hospitality employers who collect service charges from customers must now pay the entirety of those charges to the hospitality workers who performed those services for which the charge was collected.

Covered employers must post notices of these rights.

Visit the City of Oakland’s website for more information on these ordinances, including information about who is covered, posters in other languages and employer resources.
